SK Hynix is going to invest heavily in chip manufacturing
Currently, SK Hynix is the second largest memory chip manufacturer in the world. The company has decided to invest 9.4 trillion won or 6.8 billion dollars in South Korea's Yongin to increase the scope of production activities. News Reuters.
SK Hynix supplies graphics processing unit (GPU) manufacturing company Nvidia.
Hynix's revenue rose for the first time in 2018, according to earnings reports released last week. The company has also reported an increase in demand for AI chips.
Since 2019, the company has been considering investing in four new chip plants near Seoul.
According to Hynix, the company will build four chip plants covering an area of 4.2 million square meters and will continue to manufacture next-generation semiconductors. Construction of the first plant will be completed by the end of 2028.
